Last season, Morecambe had a successful first-ever campaign in the third tier of English football, finishing 19th in the 24-team table. Meanwhile the Boro had a mediocre Championship season last term, finishing seventh in the table, five points behind the playoffs. The Shrimps are going to participate in their fifth friendly of the summer, while Middlesbrough are going to play in their fourth.

Morecambe have registered one win, one defeat and two draws in their pre-season friendlies so far. The Shrimps began their preparations of the 2022-23 season with a 2-1 win over Stalybridge Celtic, played out a 2-2 draw at Macclesfield, lost 3-1 at Huddersfield and then were held to a 1-1 draw by Chester FC. Derek Adams’ side will also take on Carlisle before beginning their new Football League One season against Shrewsbury Town on July 30.
Middlesbrough, on the other hand, began their pres-season with a thumping 5-0 win at Bishop Auckland, got the better of York City in a five-goal encounter and then suffered a 3-0 loss to Braga in their recent outing. Chris Wilder is now tasked with guiding Boro to the Premier League for the first time since 2016-17. The English outfit will also play Marseille next Friday, before taking on West Brom in their 2022-23 Championship opener.

Morecambe’s new signing Hunter, who announced his arrival in style by getting on the score-sheet against Cheser last time out should retain his place in the starting eleven. Cole Stockton, who netted 23 times in the Football League One last term, should lead the attack alongside McDonald. As for Middlesbrough, Northern Irish defender Paddy McNair could come into the playing eleven. Meanwhile head coach Chris Wilder could also hand some game-time to the youngsters Daniel Dodds, Jack Robinson and Duncan Watmore.
