Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel have won the Premier League awards for October. Salah was named the Premier League EA Player of the Month, while his wonder goal against Manchester City has got the goal of the month award. On the other hand, Thomas Tuchel has been named manager of October following a month in which Chelsea registered four wins from four to move top of the Premier League. It is the second time the German boss has picked up the managerial award after his success in March earlier this year. It comes on the back of a flawless period in which the Blues won every game and conceded just one goal.

Tuchel beat off competition from Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, David Moyes of West Ham and Crystal Palace’s new incumbent Patrick Vieira in a public vote. Besides, keeping more clean sheets and conceding fewer goals than any other side in the league, Tuchel’s boys also registered a joint-high 14 goals scored in the month. It underlines their attacking proficiency, defensive stability, and game control, which is an indication of a team in top form.

All-round Chelsea

Tuchel finished top of the list after his side scored 14 goals and conceded just once on their way to four wins from four. It includes a memorable 7-0 thrashing of Norwich at Stamford Bridge on October 23. However, not all victories were straightforward, with the players having to dig deep in certain matches. They had to battle for all three points away at Brentford and wait until the final six minutes before sealing a win against Southampton at the start of the month.

The victories over Norwich City and Newcastle United – with an aggregate score of 10-0 – seemed routine but the goals were shared throughout the side. Defenders contributed to half of Chelsea’s Premier League strikes in October. Tuchel’s use of their wing-backs in high and often infield positions worked wonder for the club from Stamford Bridge.

Credit should also be given to the Chelsea head coach for utilising his full squad throughout the month. He rotated the players as per the requirements of the match and they coped well without the services of some key players. Strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner missed half of the league games through injury but still, they continued to be a threat in front of the goals.

It is to be noted that the award is not the first individual accolade bagged by Tuchel this term. He was also named UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year in August in recognition of Chelsea’s Champions League success last season.

Double delight for Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah has been announced as Premier League Player of the Month for October and his solo strike against City was named goal of the month. The Egyptian claims the prize for the first time this season after scoring five goals in his four top-flight appearances during the month.

He ended up beating Ben Chilwell, Maxwell Cornet, Phil Foden, Valentino Livramento, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Youri Tielemans to bag the award. The Liverpool forward started October by scoring a stunning solo goal at Anfield against Manchester City. He had initially done well to set up Sadio Mane’s opener.

His great run continued in the month when he produced another piece of magic away at Watford. Then he became the first-ever opposition player to score a Premier League hat-trick at Old Trafford during their emphatic 5-0 win over Manchester United.
