Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has received a nomination for PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for September following impressive performances for the Reds. The Egyptian is one of six Premier League players on the shortlist for the prize, having registered three goals during the month. The first of those goals was his 100th in the top flight. Salah is up against Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea), Ismaila Sarr (Watford), Ivan Toney (Brentford) and Michail Antonio (West Ham United). Salah, who has been in terrific form this season, has scored those goals against Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Brentford.

The 29-year-old has been one of the star players for the club since his arrival and has been a regular source for goals for the Anfield club. He carried that form into the current campaign and played a starring role in the pulsating 2-2 draw against defending Premier League champions Manchester City at Anfield over the weekend. Salah scored a special goal on Sunday, as he danced past four defenders and put the ball past City goalkeeper Ederson to restore Liverpool’s lead. However, the home side were not able to hold on to the lead, as the game finished 2-2.

After the match, Mohamed Salah was asked what was it like to play in a high-octane game like that. He told Sky Sports, “It’s hard, it’s hard when they keep the ball a lot. I think we played, first half, not really good but second half we played well. I think they had a few chances; we had as well. This is the result so I have to accept it.”

Draw is a “good result”: Salah

Speaking about the problems the team faced in the first half, Salah said, “I don’t know, I think they dominated the game from the beginning. We struggled first half but at least when we struggled it was 0-0. So second half, we talked in the dressing room after the first half, then I think we played good from the beginning of the second half.”

Sadio Mane had opened the scoring on Sunday, but Salah played a crucial role for that goal as well. He dribbled past a number of City players before playing the through ball to Mane, who slotted the ball past Ederson to score his 99th Premier League goal. “We train for that ball a lot in training and we try to do it in the game. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not, but at least it happened today. That’s the most important thing,” he added.

The most memorable moment of the match was undoubtedly Salah’s breathtaking solo goal. Speaking about it, he said, “I have to watch it to see. I do remember it. It would be more special if it won the game, but it is what it is. It’s the result. I think it’s a good goal, nothing much to say.”

Salah also feels that a draw is a “good result” for both teams. “Yeah, I have to be fair – yeah, I think they created a lot of chances, they keep the ball a lot. So I wish I would say no, but it’s fair to say yes. They had a lot of chances and a draw is a good result for both,” he added.
