Minnesota United will host Everton in a pre-season friendly at Allianz Field on Wednesday night. The hosts are in the middle of the Major League Soccer (MLS) season and are heading into the friendly on the back of a 2-0 win over DC United in their last outing. Everton on the other hand, suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in their first friendly of the summer  last Saturday. Minnesota are currently occupying fourth spot in the Western Conference table with 31 points from 21 games, while the Toffees didn’t have a great Premier League season last term, finishing in the 15th spot, just four points above the drop zone.

Last Saturday, Emmanuel Reynoso’s brace helped the Loons take all three points and register their ninth victory of the season. Adrian Heath’s side are well on course to achieve a play-off spot. Although Minnesota have collected 13 points from the last fifteen available, keeping clean sheets has been a problem for the Loons. Prior to the DC United game, Heath’s side endured a 14-game competitive run without a clean sheet.

Everton, on the other hand, started their pre-season with a defeat against the Gunners, courtesy of strikes from Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka. Frank Lampard’s side will also take on  Blackpool and Dynamo Kyiv before beginning their 2022-23 Premier League season at home against Chelsea on August 6. The Toffees have made just one senior signing this summer, in the form of James Tarkowski. Everton still needs to do more business in the transfer market to bolster their squad and replacing Richarlison, who left the clubto join Tottenham Hotspur, would be a priority.
