Last Saturday, Emmanuel Reynoso’s brace helped the Loons take all three points and register their ninth victory of the season. Adrian Heath’s side are well on course to achieve a play-off spot. Although Minnesota have collected 13 points from the last fifteen available, keeping clean sheets has been a problem for the Loons. Prior to the DC United game, Heath’s side endured a 14-game competitive run without a clean sheet.
Everton, on the other hand, started their pre-season with a defeat against the Gunners, courtesy of strikes from Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka. Frank Lampard’s side will also take on Blackpool and Dynamo Kyiv before beginning their 2022-23 Premier League season at home against Chelsea on August 6. The Toffees have made just one senior signing this summer, in the form of James Tarkowski. Everton still needs to do more business in the transfer market to bolster their squad and replacing Richarlison, who left the clubto join Tottenham Hotspur, would be a priority.
Minnesota lost midfielder Wil Trapp to a hamstring injury in the previous game and Jacori Hayes is expected to replace the 29-year-old in the middle of the park. Meanwhile Kervin Arriaga, Hassani Dotson, Niko Hansen, Patrick Weah, Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi and Roman Metanire are the long-term absentees due to injuries. As for everton, captain Seamus Coleman is still nursing an unspecified injury, while midfielder Andros Townsend is recovering from a serious knee injury. Pickford would occupy the goal with Godfrey, Tarkowski and Mina forming the three-man defence in front of him. Calvert-Lewin is likely to be the target-man up front with Gray and Gordon in support.
Minnesota United probable starting lineup: St. Clair; Taylor, Boxall, Dibassy, Lawrence; Lod, Hayes; Rosales, Reynoso, Fragapane; Amarilla
Everton probable starting lineup: Pickford; Godfrey, Tarkowski, Mina; Patterson, Doucoure, Davies, Mykolenko; Gordon, Calvert-Lewin, Gray.
The pre-season friendly match between Minnesota United and Everton will take place at Allianz Field on Thursday at 5:30 am IST.
