The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat at Tianjin Teda in their previous match, while Cangzhou played out a 1-1 draw against Beijing Guoan last Saturday.
Meizhou Hakka will host the Cangzhou Mighty Lions in a Chinese Super League fixture at Wuhau Hengpi Football Town on Wednesday. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat at Tianjin Teda in their previous match, while Cangzhou played out a 1-1 draw against Beijing Guoan last Saturday. The visitors currently occupy 13th spot in the 28-team table with six points from as many games, while Meizhou sit one place above them with seven points. Therefore it’s expected to be a thrilling game of equals at the Wuhua County Olympic Sports Centre.
On Saturday, at Wuhua Olympic Sports Centre Hitang Stadium, Farley Eosa’s lone strike was enough to separate the two sides and hand Meizhou Hakka their first defeat of the season. Milan Ristic’s men have now failed to find the back of the net for the second game running. The Wuhua-based side started their season with two back-to-back draws against Tianjin Teda and Cuangzhou before edging past Shenzhen FC 2-1 courtesy of Nebojsa Kosovic’s injury-time winner. And then shared the spoils against Beijing Guoan and Chengdu Rongcheng.
Cangzhou, on the other hand, had enjoyed a pretty good spell of results prior to the commencement of the Chinese Super League. They had won four, drawn one and lost just one of their last six matches before the beginning of June. They even started their campaign on a positive note with a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture against Beijing Guoan. However, since then, results have been far from ideal as they are still to find a win since the opening day. On Saturday, Cangzhou took the lead through Piao Shihao before Zhang Yuning equalised for Beijing Guoan in the 84th minute to share the points.
Meizhou Hakka midfielder Xueming Liang is doubtful for Wednesday’s game, having suffered an injury in the previous match against Tianjin. Meanwhile Nuno Mendez could return to the starting eleven having started on the bench in the aforementioned match. Vukanovic, who netted in the 2-2 draw against Beijing Guoan on June 17, should lead the attack alongside Li, Henrique and Yang in support. As for Cangzhou, last game’s goal-scorer Shiao, is likely to occupy the right side of midfield. Tay Maritu would be the target-man with Iskander and Ma in support.
Meizhou Hakka probable starting lineup: Hou; Chen, Bravo, Dugalic, Liao; Shi, Kosovic; Yang, Henrique, Li; Vukanovic.
Cangzhou Mighty Lions probable starting lineup: Shao; Yang, Zhang; Piao, Lin, Zheng, Yang; Taty Maritu, Iskander, Ma.
