Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is considered one of the most popular players in the history of the club. Aguero has etched his name into the club’s history as the all-time record goal-scorer, which is certainly a matter of great honour. However, one of the most iconic moments in City’s long history also belongs to him. It was the Argentine who smashed home the 94th-minute goal on the final day of the 2012 season to defeat Queens Park Rangers (QPR). However, the importance of that goal lies in the fact that it helped City record its maiden Premier League triumph at the expense of Manchester United.

In the end, the margin of defeat over United was goal difference. However, few would deny this was the year of the sky blues from start to finish. The latest and most dramatic of those moments were recorded against QPR with Pablo Zabaleta recording his first goal of the season, along with two goals being scored in the last five minutes of an exciting Premier League season.

“My future is at City”

Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero scored the winning goals for Manchester City, turning despair into delirium. Aguero was earlier linked to the likes of Real Madrid. However, he signed a new contract with the Cityzens soon after, going on to achieve success after success.

“My future is at City. There are always rumours, but there is no truth in them. I am not thinking about moving to Real Madrid or anywhere else. I want to stay here. My contract has four years left to run and I see myself being here at least as long as that. City have treated me very well from the very first day I arrived, I’m settled at the club and my family are happy in Manchester, and I want to stay,” he said at that stage as quoted by Manchester City’s official website.

“We have always stood together. There is no problem with the squad, no lack of cohesion, anything like that. There is great spirit between the players. There is no better proof of that than what happened at the end of the season. I will cherish that final day forever and it goes without saying that scoring against QPR was the best moment of my career,” concluded Aguero.
