Manvir Singh news: Indian international extends contract with ISL side ATK Mohun Bagan

The 26-year-old forward has reportedly penned a 5-year deal, which will keep him at the Mariners till the summer of 2027.

According to a recent report by Football Monk, Indian international Manvir Singh has signed a contract extension with Indian super League (ISL) side ATK Mohun Bagan. The 26-year-old forward has penned a 5-year deal, which will keep him at the Mariners till the summer of 2027. Manvir has been a pivotal figure in the Mariners’ attack since joining the club in 2020. He has scored 15 goals in 54 games for ATKMB across all competitions. The 2021-22 season was Manvir’s best in front of goal as he netted 6 times in 20 ISL appearances and played a key role in his team’s run to the play-offs, where they lost to eventual Champions Hyderabad FC. 

Manvir is one of the best forwards in India

Manvir joined the Kolkata outfit in August, 2020 on a then-record transfer fee. Since joining the side he has grown into one of the best forwards in the country. The team never lost a game when Manvir scored for them. He has been a regular starter for the Mariners under both Habas and Juan Ferrando. The Punjabi footballer is a versatile attacker who can be deployed anywhere in the forward line. He is tall, quick and work’s his socks off for the team.

Manvir is a versatile attacker

At ATKMB, Manvir has improved leaps and bounds. His goal contributions have increased while he has grown into a more matured footballer. He has played across many positions for the team, most notably as a wide winger under Habas. He is a work-horse on the right and his ability to cut inside and shoot made him one of the effective attackers in India. Meanwhile he is also capable of playing as a centre-forward. He is tall, good in the air and has the ability to hold the ball. Meanwhile Manvir spent three years at FC Goa before moving to Kolkata for more game time. In the recently concluded AFC Cup group stage, ATKMB topped Group D and qualified for the inter-zonal play-offs. Manvir started all the three games while he had also netted two goals in the AFC Cup qualifiers.

Manvir netted 6 ISL goals last term

In the Indian national team, Manvir is often deployed as a target-man alongside Sunil Chhetri. He made his debut for the Blue Tigers in 2017 and went on to make 30 appearances and netted 5 times. Manvir along with Liston Colaco were the best Indian striker’s last season. Liston finished the campaign as the top indian goal-scorer with 8 goals to his name while Manvir was the joint-second with Bipin Singh, both of them breaching the net a total of six times. After failing at the semi-final stage of the ISL last term, the Mariners have already made some big signings for the upcoming season, as per reports. Ashish Rai has reportedly signed a 5-year-deal with the Kolkata-based side while Ashique Kuruniyan is linked with a swap deal involving Prabir Das.
