Manchester United’s pre-season began on a positive note with three successive wins against Liverpool (4-0), Melbourne City (4-1) and Crystal Palace (3-1), before playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Aston Villa and then lost to Atletico Madrid in the previous game. Joao Felix’ s 86th minute goal handed Manchester United their first defeat of the summer. After the game against the Spanish outfit, the Red Devils will kick-off their new Premier League season at home against Brighton on August 7. United have bolstered their squad for the upcoming season by signing Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.
Rayo Vallecano, on the other hand, began their pre-season with a 3-0 defeat to SC Freiburg before getting the better of Sheffield Wednesday 2-0, and then played out a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City. In their last game against Leganes, Isi Palazon and Radamel Falcao netted for Rayo to secure the win. After Sunday’s game, Andoni Iraola’s side will begin their 2022-23 La Liga season away to Barcelona on August 13.
United boss Ten Hag is likely to give starting roles to the youngsters and new recruits in the attacking department, while the back-four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Eric Bailey and Luke Shaw might remain the same. Chong could lead the attack, with Alejandro Granacho and Amad in support. Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal who impressed during the previous friendlies, could pull the strings in the midfield. As for Rayo, Colombian striker Falcao is going to lead the attack alongside Palazon. New recruits Unai Lopez and Sancez could feature on Sunday.
