Manchester United will host Brentford in a Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United this weekend, while Brentford played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. As of now, United are occupying fifth spot in the English top flight standings, having collected 50 points from 27 games, level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have played two games extra. The visitors, meanwhile, have completed 28 matches, and are sitting four places behind United, separated by seven points.

Manchester United are going through a torrid time in the Premier League, having lost their last three top flight games, without scoring a single goal and conceding nine times. On Sunday, Erik ten Hag’s men were clearly outplayed by Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. Second-half headers from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson handed United their seventh league-defeat of the season. Ten Hag’s men have recorded 15 top flight victories this term and the latest one came against Leicester City (3-0) midway through February, thanks to Marcus Rashford’s brace and on goal from Jadon Sancho. With the Europa League quarter-final and FA Cup semi-final lined up for later this month, United are in a strong position to add to their EFL Cup glory. Meanwhile, the Red Devils have been solid at home in the Premier League this season, losing only one of their 13 top flight matches at Old Trafford, while collecting 30 points from a possible 39 in front of their own supporters.

Brentford, on the other hand, have lost only one of their last 16 league-games, and triumphed against Manchester City and Liverpool in that process. Thomas Frank’s side have lost only five times in the league this term. Their latest win in the top flight came last month against Southampton thanks to two unanswered goals from Ivan Toney and Yoane Wissa. It was their 10th league-win of the season. Last time out, the Bees took the lead thrice through Pontus Jansson, Ivan Toney and Ethan Pinnock but had to settle for a point against Brighton at Falmer Stadium. Meanwhile, Brentford secured a thumping 4-0 win over United in the reverse fixture in August last year courtesy of first-half goals from Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo.
