Manchester United are preparing to sell midfielder Jesse Lengard if he doesn’t sign the contract extension. As per reports coming in, the Red Devils are prepared to accept offers in the region of GBP 15 million this January. The 28-year-old has only one year left in his contract with Manchester United and the club doesn’t want to lose him for nothing. According to the Sun, the Englishman wants assurance over first-team football before signing the new contract worth GBP 135,000-a-week.

West Ham United looks like an obvious suitor for Lingard as he had an impressive loan stint with the London club last season. The 28-year-old scored 9 goals in 19 appearances for the Hammers in the previous season.

Leicester City FC have also been linked with the attacking midfielder previously and Newcastle United are expected to splash the cash this January after their Saudi takeover.

LINGARD STRUGGLING TO FIND REGULAR PLAYING TIME!

Lingard has been struggling to get regular game time because of the plethora of attacking options Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has at his disposal. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho this summer has made things harder for the England international.

However, Lingard has been trying to force his way into Solskjaer’s side and has made six appearances in all competitions so far, scoring two goals and one of those was a late winner against West Ham. Meanwhile, he also provided the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s last gasp winner against Villarreal in the Champions League group stage encounter.

Despite not being a regular starter at Old Trafford he has regularly featured in Gareth Southgate’s England side. He scored a brace in the 4-0 win over Andorra in September.

Lingard is a highly skillful player who is extremely good when it comes to making space from tight situations and creating goal scoring opportunities for his teammates. He is also pretty good at scoring goals.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand urged Newcastle United to sign Lingard in the January window ahead of the Saudi takeover at St James’ Park.

Speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “I’d be going to try and make like a mad couple of signings, like huge, that I think would be gettable.

“I’d be looking at people like Raheem Sterling. Raheem Sterling’s not playing regularly, I’d go ask him the question. I’d go and ask Declan Rice, ‘What’s going on?”

“These two would be the first two on my list, and I’d go all out to go and get them. And then I’d be trying to get people like Jesse Lingard, who’s in and around the Man United squad.”

“It’s unrealistic until you ask the question. I’d be going out there to get answers from these types of players and then you work your way down your list.”

Manchester United are currently placed fourth in the Premier League table with 14 points from seven games and will travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Saturday.
