Man City made a strong start to their title-defence, winning three of their opening four games, while one match ended in a draw. Pep guardiola’s side found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening 21-minutes of Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace, but a stunning second-half performance from the Cityzens saw them score four times and take all three points. Bernardo Silva pulled one goal back before Erling Haalnd netted a hat-trick to complete the turnaround. Man City beat West Ham and Bournemouth in their opening two fixtures before playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Newcastle United.

Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, have made an encouraging start to their first Premier League campaign in over two decades. Steve Cooper’s side kicked off their league season with a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United before securing a narrow 1-0 victory over West Ham United, and then shared the spoils against Everton. In their last match against Spurs, Harry Kane netted a brace to hand Forest their second defeat of the season. It was a below par performance from the Tricky Trees, as they managed to register just one shot on target compared to seven by Tottenham.

Man City defender Aymeric Laporte is sidelined with a knee injury, therefore Nathan Ake will continue to partner Ruben Dias in the heart of the defence. Last game’s hat-trick hero Haaland is expected to lead the line with Phil Foden and Riyad Mahez in support. As for Forest, defenders Moussa Niakhate and Omar Richards are unavailable for Wednesday’s game because of injuries. Playmaker Jesse Lingard could drop to the bench, therefore Taiwo Awoniyi is likely to come into the playing eleven, operating behind the strikers.
Manchester City probable starting lineup: Ederson, Walker, Ake, Dias, Cancelo, Gundogan, Rodri, De Bruyne, Foden, Haaland, Mahrez
Nottingham Forest probable starting lineup: Henderson, Worrall, Cook, McKenna, Williams, Yates, Freuler, Toffolo, Johnson, Awoniyi, Gibbs-White
