For the first time in the competitions 142 year history, the FA Cup final will double up as Manchester Derby at the Wembley Stadium. Treble-chasing Premier League champions Manchester City are aiming to secure England’s oldest trophy for the seventh time in their history, while the Red Devils are hoping to get their hands of the prestigious prize for the 13th time. Pep Guardiola’s side are bidding to become the first English club since rivals Manchester United in 1998-99 to win the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League in the same season. Cityzens will take on Inter Milan in the European showdown at Ataturk Olympic Stadium on June 10.

Manchester City are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 league-defeat away to Brentford last weekend, courtesy of Ethan Pinnock’s 85th-minute effort. Although the result ended Man City’s 25-game unbeaten run across all competitions, it had no significance as the Citizens had already clinched the Premier League crown for the third successive year and for the fifth time in six seasons. Guardiola’s men collected 89 points from 38 top flight games, five more than Arsenal, who finished at the second place. Meanwhile, when it comes to the FA Cup, the Sky Blues have seen of Chelsea, Arsenal, Bristol City, Burnley and Sheffield United to reach this far in the competition. Guardiola’s men thrashed Championship side Sheffield united 3-0 in the semi-final clash on April 22, thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s hat-trick. Meanwhile, the Citizens are also the highest scorers in this season’s FA Cup with 17 goals.

Manchester United, on the other hand, enter the contest on the back of a 2-1 win against Fulham on the final matchday of the top flight season. Erik ten Hag’s men came from behind to secure all three points thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes. It was the Red Devils’s fourth successive victory, scoring seven goals and conceding only two in the process. Ten Hag’s men have already secured the 2022-23 EFL Cup title and are now in with a chance to do the cup-double. United finished their league campaign at the third position with 75 points to their name and thereby qualified for next season’s Champions League. Meanwhile, the 12-time FA Cup winners overcame Brighton & Hove Albion 7-6 on penalties in the semi-final clash on April 23.
