Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and Chelsea will go head-to-head in a FA Cup third round fixture at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. This will be the third meeting between these two clubs in two months and second one in the space of four days. The Cityzens traveled to Stamford Bridge for Thursday’s League-game and ran out 1-0 winners, courtesy of Riyad Mahrez’s 63rd-minute strike. The Blues had finished runner-ups in the last edition of the Cup competition, following a defeat to Liverpool on penalties. Pep Guardiola’s side, meanwhile, lost 3-2 to the Reds in the semi-final, last year.

Manchester City are playing catch-up to Arsenal in the Premier League race. Guardiola’s side are undefeated in their last five games across all competitions. Man City’s last FA Cup triumph was in 2019, when they thrashed Watford 6-0 to lift the title at the Wembley Stadium. It was only the third time that a team had scored six goals in the final of the world ‘s oldest football tournament. Chelsea, on the other hand, are going through a tough patch, having recorded just one win from their last six competitive games. To add salt to the wound, three of their players got injured in the last match against Man City. Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic will be unavailable for Sunday’s game.
