Reigning champions Manchester City are hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, while Villa were beaten 4-2 by Leicester City, a day earlier. Pep Guardiola’s side couldn’t take advantage of Arsenal’s slip up at Everton last time out.. As of now, Cityzens are occupying second spot in the English top tier standings, having collected 45 points from 21 matches, while the visitors are sitting in 11th position with 28 points to their name.

Man City suffered their fourth league-defeat of the season against Spurs last Sunday. Harry Kane’s lone goal inside the opening 15 minutes separated the two sides in Manchester. Guardiola’s side tried their best to level the score, as Riyadh Mahrez struck the post with a fine volley before Julian Alvarez’s bullet-effort was deflected over the crossbar. Although Spurs defender Christian Romero was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, the North London side managed to hold on to the slender lead and secured the win. Meanwhile, it was Man City’s second defeat in their last four top flight matches.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, have lost just one of their five league-games this year. Their lone defeat in the top flight since the turn of the year came against the Foxes in the last outing. Ollie Watkins and a Harry Souttar own goal put Villa ahead twice in the game, but James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho, Tete and Dennis Praet all netted for Leicester at Villa Park. It was Aston Villa’s ninth league-defeat of the campaign. Prior to that, Emery’s side edged past Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium courtesy of Watkins’ lone strike. It was their eighth top flight victory of the campaign, extending their unbeaten run away from home to three matches in the Premier League.
