Manchester City beat Newcastle United 4-3, Ferran Torres scores hat-trick

Ferran Torres' hat-trick and Joao Cancelo's strike ensured Manchester City's 12th consecutive away victory in the Premier League season.

Manchester City beat Newcastle United 4-3 at St. James’ Park to set the record for most consecutive away victories in the Premier League courtesy of Ferran Torres’ hat-trick. Emil Krafth opened the scoring for Newcastle. Joa Cancleo got the equalizer for Man City three minutes before Ferran Torres got the lead in the 42nd minute. Joelinto equalized for the home side through a spot kick just before the interval. Joe Willock restored the lead for Newcastle but Torres’s quick double ensured City’s 12th consecutive away win in the league.

Steve Bruce’s side scored the first goal of the match against the run of play in the 25th minute. Jonjo Shelvey’s corner was headed in by center-back Emil Krafth. Pep Guardiola’s side equalized in the 39th minute. Left-back Joao Cancelo’s ambitious drive took a slight deflection and went through multiple Newcastle defender’s before going past the goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Three minutes after the equalizer, Ferran Torres got his first goal of the night. Ilkay Gundogan’s low free-kick was turned in by Torres’ improvised flick. Newcastle got a penalty for Nathan Ake’s foul on Joelinton. Joelinton smashed the ball past City goalkeeper Scott Carson, who was making his first appearance of the season to level the score at 2-2.

Three goals scored in the space of six minutes

Three goals were scored in the space of six minutes in the second half. Newcastle got their second penalty after Joe Willock was fouled by Kyle Walker. Willock’s first attempt was saved but the Englishman scored off the rebound to give Newcastle a 3-2 lead.

Ferran Torres got his second of the night in the 64th minute. Gabriel Jesus’ low cross from the right side was tapped in by Torres to make the score 3-3. Two minutes after the goal, Torres completed his hat-trick. Joa Cancelo’s strike hit the post and the rebound was volleyed in by the Spanish striker.

The win extended English Champions’ lead at the top to 13 points. Newcastle are safe and are 16th in the points table.
