Malmo FF will host F91 Dudelange in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats in their Champions League second qualifying round, which saw them drop to the Europa League qualifier. The hosts were dumped out by Lithuanian side Zalgiris, while F91 Dudelange were defeated by Pyunik over two legs. Malmo had won the Swedish top flight title last term, while the visitors had won the 2021-22 Luxembourg National Division title.

Malmo were thrashed 3-0 by Zalgiris over two legs last month. The first leg at Zalgiris had ended 1-0 in favour of the home side courtesy of Fabien Ourega’s lone strike. And then in the second leg, Mathias Kehinde and Renan Oliveira netted for the Lithuanian outfit to eliminate Malmo from the Champions League qualification. Milos Milojevic’ side haven’t had a great 2022 domestic campaign, sitting at the fifth spot in the Allsvenskan standings with 30 points from 16 games, three points adrift of the leaders Djurgarden.

F91 Dudelange, on the other hand, made a positive start to their Champions League qualification by getting the better of Tirana 3-1 over two legs in the first round. And then, the first leg of the Champions League second qualifying round ended 1-0 in favour of the Luxembourg outfit courtesy of Samir Hadji’s lone goal from the penalty spot. But then, Carlos Fanguero’s men failed to hold on to the slender lead, lost the second leg 4-1 and therefore suffered a 4-2 aggregate loss against the Armenian outfit.
