Mallorca will host Cadiz in a La Liga fixture at Iberostar Estadi on Friday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats last week, with the hosts suffering a 2-1 loss away to Girona, while Cadiz were thrashed 5-1 by Atletico Madrid. As of now, Mallorca are occupying 12th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 41 points from 33 games, seven points adrift of the top seven. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting three places behind the Pirates separated by six points and just one point clear of the relegation zone.

Mallorca suffered their 14th league-defeat of the season against Girona almost a week ago despite the fact that Vedat Muriqi’s 80th-minute penalty kick canceled out Bernardo Espinosa’s opener on the stroke of half-time. Valentin Castellanos’s 84th-minute effort at Montillivi extended the Pirates’s winless run to three games, losing two in the period. Because of the poor run of form, the Vermilions have slipped down to the bottom half of the table , but they are on course to better their last season’s 16th place finish in the Spanish top flight. Meanwhile, the Barralet have been pretty good at home this term, having collected 26 points from 16 league-matches at Iberostar Estadi so far.

Cadiz, on the other hand, have won only three away-games in the top flight this season. bBut, El Submarino Amarillo have taken 14 points from their 16 away games in the La Liga this term, which is relatively solid return considering their spot in the table. Last time out, the Yellow Submarine got thrashed by third-placed Atletico at Metropolitano courtesy of Antonio Griezmann’s brace and one goal each from Alvaro Morata, Yannick Carrasco and Nahuel Molina. Meanwhile, Cadiz scored a consolation goal through Anthony Lozano’s 72nd-minute effort. Prior to that, Sergio Gonzalez’s side got the better of Valencia 2-1 thanks to goals from Gonzalo Escalante and Sergio Navarro. It was their eighth league-win of the season. Cadiz have won only one of their last five games in the league and might need to register couple of positive results from their remaining five games to ensure survival and better last season’s 17th-place finish.
