LAFC had an impressive league campaign, recording a whopping 21 wins and two draws to secure top spot in the table, with a eleven point lead over the second-placed club Austin. After qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season, the Black and Gold are aiming to win their first MLS Cup. Their 1-0 defeat to Nashville on Decision Day ended a run of nine consecutive domestic wins at the home turf. Teal Bunbury’s 53rd-minute strike separated the two sides at Banc of California stadium.
La Galaxy, on the other hand, booked their place in the next round of playoffs thanks to a narrow win over Nashville. Julian Araujo’s 60th-minute goal was enough to help the Galaxy secure the win. The Galaxy have won 27 of their 31 home fixtures in the MLS Cup playoffs, but it has been a different story on the road, where they have not won a postseason affair since defeating San Jose Earthquakes in 2012. Meanwhile, Galaxy finished the league campaign with 14 victories and eight draws.
Cristian Arango, who has netted 16 goals in theregular season, is likely to lead the line with Carlos Vela and Bouanga in support. Jesus Mourillo could replace Georgio Chiellini in the central defence alongside Segura. As for La Galaxy, former Manchester United-man Chicharito is expected to spearhead the attack with Cabral and Grandsir in support.
