Los Angeles FC will host rivals Los Angeles Galaxy in the Major League Soccer Cup Conference semi-final at the Banc of California Stadium on Thursday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Nashville on October 9, while La Galaxy got the better of the same opponents with a similar scoreline, six days later. LAFC finished at the summit of the Western Conference standings, having collected 67 points from 34 games, while the visitors managed to secure a fourth-place finish, with 50 points to their name.

LAFC had an impressive league campaign, recording a whopping 21 wins and two draws to secure top spot in the table, with a eleven point lead over the second-placed club Austin. After qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season, the Black and Gold are aiming to win their first MLS Cup. Their 1-0 defeat to Nashville on Decision Day ended a run of nine consecutive domestic wins at the home turf. Teal Bunbury’s 53rd-minute strike separated the two sides at Banc of California stadium.

La Galaxy, on the other hand, booked their place in the next round of playoffs thanks to a narrow win over Nashville. Julian Araujo’s 60th-minute goal was enough to help the Galaxy secure the win. The Galaxy have won 27 of their 31 home fixtures in the MLS Cup playoffs, but it has been a different story on the road, where they have not won a postseason affair since defeating San Jose Earthquakes in 2012. Meanwhile, Galaxy finished the league campaign with 14 victories and eight draws.
