Liverpool will be taking on French side Strasbourg in a pre-season friendly just 24 hours after beating Manchester City in the Community Shield. The Reds ran out 3-1 winners over the defending Premier League champions on Saturday in the annual curtain raiser. However, they are in action again on Sunday with the Ligue 1 outfit. It is expected that Jurgen Klopp will field a different set of players from those who participated in the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday. It will also be the Reds’ final friendly match before the league campaign kicks off next week.

The Reds will begin their Premier League season by traveling to newly promoted Fulham on the sixth of August. Hence, the match against the French side will be the final opportunity for Klopp to experiment with his team ahead of the new campaign. Liverpool will be coming into this match on the back of a morale-boosting win over City on Saturday. On the other hand, Strasbourg had a positive season last time around, narrowly missing out on European qualification by finishing sixth in Ligue 1. They are heading into this match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari.

Possible Lineups

Liverpool took the field against Manchester City with a strong XI, hence most of those players are expected to be rested for the upcoming friendly. It means their front three – Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz – might not play on Sunday. Their big-money signing Darwin Nunez came from the bench to have a massive impact against City. It is not clear whether Klopp will risk him just 24 hours later for a friendly. Besides, Liverpool have their own injury concerns.

In between the posts, Alisson Becker did not play in the Community Shield due to injury concerns, meaning Adrian started against Guardiola’s side. They both also might not play on Sunday and with Caoimhin Kelleher’s participation still not clear, academy player Liam Hughes could be a surprise choice in between the sticks. Besides, Diogo Jota is also ruled out, while question marks remain over the participation of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kostas Tsimikas and Calvin Ramsay. Strasbourg could very well rotate their squad massively in each half to give most of their players sufficient game time. Hence, a lot of players might be involved from the traveling side throughout the match.

Liverpool possible line-up: Kelleher, Gomez, Konate, Van den Berg, Milner, Jones, Morton, Keita, Carvalho, Elliott, Nunez

Strasbourg possible line-up: Sels, Dagba, Djiku, Nyamsi, Perrin, Delaine, Sissoko, Bellegarde, Thomasson, Diallo, Ajorque
