A youthful Liverpool side edged past League One outfit Derby County on Wednesday night courtesy of Caoimhim Kelleher’s heroics during the penalty shootout. The Reds may have missed twice from 12 yards themselves, but Kelleher kept out three spot-kicks before Harvey Elliott scored a decisive penalty to help Jurgen Klopp’s side advance to the fourth-round of the competition. Prior to that, the Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 away from home in a Premier League match on Sunday. Mohamed Salah netted a first half double to help the Reds register their fifth league-win of the campaign.
Southampton, on the other hand, have recorded just three league-wins thus far. The Poor run of form led to the sacking of head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl and arrival of Nathan Jones. Jones will inherit a group of players in desperate need of some motivation following the 4-1 thrashing suffered against Newcastle last weekend. It was Southampton’s eighth league-defeat of the season. Southampton have scored just one goal in their last five Premier League away games, and a defeat on Saturday would confine the Saints to a place in the drop zone at Christmas for the first time since 2004-05.
