Liverpool will start their mid-season preparations when they take on Lyon in the Dubai Super Cup. The highly-anticipated match at the Al Maktoum Stadium will be the first time Jurgen Klopp’s boys will be in action since defeating Southampton 3-1 in their last match before the World Cup break. Lyon have already played a Premier League club in a friendly but there will be nothing to brag for them from that fixture following a 3-0 humbling against a make-shift Gunners squad.

Lyon have been extremely inconsistent in Ligue 1 this season. They are sitting eight in the standings with 21 points from 15 games. They have won only two of their last five league matches. On the other hand, Liverpool won their last two Premier League games to move up to sixth in the table with 22 points from 14 games. Klopp’s side had a dismal start to the season, however, their run of form in the last few matches before the World Cup came to an end would have given their supporters plenty of optimism.
