Leicester City and Brentford Fc will begin their 2022-23 English Premier League campaign at the King Power Stadium on Sunday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of similar victories in their final pre-season friendly of the summer. The Foxes got the better of Sevilla 1-0 last Sunday, while a day earlier, Brentford defeated Real Betis with an identical scoreline. Leicester finished 8th in the 2021-22 Premier League standings and missed out on European qualification by just four points. The Bees, on the other hand, managed to secure an impressive 13th spot to extend their stay in the top tier of English football for another season.

Leicester had an impressive pre-season, winning four of their six friendlies. In their recent outing against Sevilla, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s lone strike was enough to separate the two sides. Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers’ side haven’t made a single summer signing amid concerns over a lack of transfer funds. Legendary goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has already left the club to join French outfit Nice, while the likes of James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Wesley Fofana are attracting interests from a number of top European clubs.
Brentford, on the other hand, have completed some high profile signings, beringing in Thomas Strakosha, Ben Mee, Aaron Hickey and Keane Lewis-Potter. The Bees had a mixed pre-season, recording three wins, two defeats and one draw. Thomas Frank’s side found the back of the net just seven times in those six friendlies, while conceding eight goals. However, expectations are high that the London outfit can challenge for a top half finish this term.

Leicester will be without fullback Ricardo Pereira, who sustained an achilles injury in the victory against Sevilla. Therefore, Rodgers is likely to opt for a back-three consisting of Daniel Amartey, James Justin and Timothy Castagne. Daniel Iversen is set to occupy the goal. Jamie Vardy and Iheanacho could partner up front. As for Brentford, Toney is expected to lead the attack with Mbeumo and Wissa occupying the flanks. Jensen, Janelt and Norgaard could form the midfield trio.
