Leeds United will host Tottenham Hotspur on the final-day Premier League showdown at Elland Road on Sunday evening. The hosts are currently languishing at the 19th spot in the English top flight standings, having collected 31 points from 37 games, two points adrift of safety, and simply need to win and hope for results elsewhere to go in their favour to extend their stay in this division to at least one more season. Spurs, meanwhile, are sitting at the eighth position, having collected 57 points to their name, just a solitary point behind seventh-placed Aston Villa, and one point above ninth-placed Brentford. Rayon Mason’s side are in a three-horse race with Villa and the Bees for a spot in the Europa Conference League.

Leeds are heading into the match on the back of a 3-1 defeat away to West Ham United last Sunday. The Peacocks took the lead through Rodrigo Moreno’s 17th-minute effort, before Declan Rice’s 32nd-minute equaliser and second-half efforts from Jarrod Bowen and Manuel Lanzini handed Leeds their 20 top flight defeat of the season. The result extended the Whites’s winless run to to eight games in the Premier League, losing six matches in the period. Courtesy of the poor run of form, Sam Allardyce’s men are sitting level on points with 18th-placed Leicester City and need to secure all three points on Sunday if they are to give themselves a chance of staying up, while they must simultaneously pray for West Ham to at least hold Leicester to a draw and for Bournemouth to beat 17th-placed Everton at Goodison Park.

Tottenham, on the other hand, suffered an identical defeat to their nearest challengers Brentford last Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Although Spurs took an early lead through Harry Kane’s eighth-minute effort, the Bees came out all guns blazing in the second-half, scoring three times through Bryan Mbeumo’s brace and Yoane Wissa’s late effort. It was the Lilywhites’ 14th league-defeat of the season, and with just four points taken from their last seven outings, Mason’s men have dropped out of the top four and could end the season without European qualification. In order to secure a Europa Conference League spot, Spurs need to secure all three points on Sunday and simultaneously hope for Villa to drop points against Brighton. Meanwhile, Meanwhile, a draw would suffice for Mason’s side if the Lions Loose out to the Seagulls at Villa Park.
