Inter Milan would be aiming to retain the Scudetto title which they had conceded to City rivals AC Milan last season.
Lecce will host Inter Milan in their opening match of the 2022-23 Serie A season at the stadio comunale via del Mare on Saturday. The hosts had won the 2021-22 Serie B title to earn promotion to the top tie of Italian football after two years. Inter Milan, meanwhile, would be aiming to retain the Scudetto title which they had conceded to City rivals AC Milan last season, courtesy of finishing second in the points table. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Cittadella in their first round fixture of the Coppa Italia last weekend. Inter Milan, on the other hand, suffered a 4-2 defeat to Villarreal in their final pre-season friendly of the summer last sunday.

Lecce had a mixed pre-season, recording two wins and two defeats from four friendlies. Marco Baroni’s side didn’t have a great start to their competitive action of the new season, losing to a lower division side to get eliminated from the domestic cup competition. Last Saturday, Gabriel Strefezza and Lorenzo Colombo netted for Lecce, but goals from Asencio and Mamadou Tounkara helped the Serie B side go through to the next round of the competition. The Yellow and Reds last participated in the Serie A during the 2019-20 campaign when they finished 18th in the standings to get relegated to the second division.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, registered just one win from their five friendlies this summer. In their recent outing against Villarreal, Romelu Lukaku and Danilo D Ambrosio netted for the Azzurri, but goals from Alfonso Pedraza, Francis Coquelin and Nicolas Jackson helped the Spanish outfit secure the win. Inter have managed to retain the core of the team and Simone Inzaghi did a decent job last term to keep them in the title race till the final matchday. Striker Lukaku has been brought back from Chelsea, while the Azzurri have managed to retain the services of centre-back Milan Skriniar, despite interests from a number of top European clubs including PSG.
Although Inter Milan have lost some experienced players in the form of Ivan Perisic, Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez, head coach Inzaghi has done a good job to bring in ample replacements. Robin Gosens is likely to occupy the left flank with Dumfries at the other flank. Lukaku is likely to partner Lautaro Martinez up front with Calhanoglu, Barella and Brozovic forming the midfield-trio. As for Lecce, new arrival Federico Di Francessco could lead the line with Ceesay and Strefezza in support.
Lecce probable starting lineup: Falcone; Gendrey, Blin, Dermaku, Gallo; Bistorvic, Hjulmand, Askildsen; Ceesay, Strefezza; di Francesco.
Inter Milan probable starting line: Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Gosens; Martinez, Lukaku
