La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are set to take on Real Sociedad at home in matchday 36. The former have now got three games left in the domestic league campaign, with all three of them nothing short of finals. Four teams: Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Seville are battling it out in the race for La Liga. However, Atletico are the only team that only need to depend on themselves to win the domestic league.

The Madrid-based side arrives for the midweek fixture, following a goalless draw at the Camp Nou against Barcelona. Real Sociedad recorded a win in their last clash against Elche. They are fifth in the La Liga standings, having accumulated 56 points.

The race for the title as well as the fight for the Europa League spots is extremely tight. One can expect a very well-fought match with the two teams desperately looking to ensure the addition of three points to their kitty. Atletico emerged victorious by a 2-0 margin in the reverse fixture in San Sebastia, following goals from Marcos Llorente and Mario Hermoso.

Excellent run against Sociedad

Simeone’s players are unbeaten in their last seven home games against Real Sociedad. Atletico Madrid emerged victorious in six matches and drew one, ensuring five clean sheets. They have further only lost one encounter in the last five La Liga games against Sociedad, recording a 2-0 defeat in September 2019.

Luis Suarez has been involved in 10 goals in 11 league matches against Real Sociedad. He has only provided more assists against Deportivo (7) and Alaves (7), while also registering five against Espanyol and Granada. Marcos Llorente has been involved in five of Atletico’s last six league goals (three goals and two assists) and has either scored or assisted their last four goals at the Wanda Metropolitano in the competition (two goals and two assists).

It will be interesting to note if Real Sociedad manage to make their presence felt against Atletico Madrid who can certainly be unstoppable on their day. A win will further be almost necessary for the latter, considering the immense competition out there for the La Liga crown.
