Juventus are reportedly considering offloading Cristiano Ronaldo and bringing in Mauro Icardi from Paris Saint-Germain as part of a sensational swap deal this summer. The new Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is thought to be planning a squad overhaul before the start of the season. He is reportedly looking for new long term signings. Meanwhile PSG may also be very much interested in the deal. The French club is desperate to win the Champions League and the Portuguese star might just provide them that X factor.

Ronaldo has one more year left in his contract. The Portuguese superstar’s current contract is thought to be worth GBP 3.8m per month. Due to the financial impact of coronavirus, the Italian club may struggle to offer him a new deal. Meanwhile they also risk losing him for free at the end of next season if his future isn’t resolved. Therefore the swap deal may not be a bad idea for Juve.

Juventus have long been interested in Icardi. However, they missed out on signing him last summer, with the Argentine striker joining PSG. Meanwhile it is thought that there is a clause in the striker’s contract. That would see PSG paying a fee of around GBP 12m to Inter Milan if they sell him to another Serie A club.

Does swapping Cristiano Ronaldo make sense?

Icardi’s contract with the French club is till 2024. He scored 13 goals in 28 appearances for PSG last season. But he hasn’t yet established himself as a regular starter in the team so far. Therefore he might be tempted to move back to Serie A.

However Ronaldo, 36, hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down as he was the top scorer in Euro 2020 with 5 goals. He also netted 36 times for Juve in 44 appearances in the previous season. He was also the top scorer in Serie A last season with 29 goals.

PSG have already signed Ronaldo’s former team mate Sergio Ramos. If they could bring in the five time Ballon d’or winner also it would be a huge boost to their dreams of winning a continental title. Adding Cristiano Ronaldo to the front three alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar could make them one of the most potent attacks in Europe. Therefore the deal might appeal to them.
