Julian Alvarez is a Argentinian professional footballer who plays for the club Manchester City. He was a member of Argentina’s World Cup-winning 26-man team for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. He got his first World Cup goal in a 2-0 victory over Poland in the final group stage game. On December 3, Alvarez got his second World Cup goal, helping Argentina defeat Australia 2-1. He extended his goal-scoring streak by netting two more goals in Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Croatia in the semi-finals, making him the youngest player to do so since Pelé in 1958 at 22 years, 316 days old.

On his 22nd birthday, it was announced that Alvarez had signed a deal with Premier League champions Manchester City, though he would still spend the rest of the season on loan at River Plate. He struck on his professional debut when City lost 1-3 to rival Liverpool in the Community Shield. Alvarez made his Premier League start after replacing Erling Haaland in a 2-0 victory over West Ham United on the road. He scored his first two Premier League goals in a 6-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at Etihad Stadium. After winning the World Cup he signed a new contract which makes him a City player until 2028.
