Indian Super League side Hyderabad FC midfielder Joao Victor has signed a two-year extension till the end of the 2022-23 campaign, the club announced on Friday. Well-versed in playing at both midfield and defense, the 32-year-old Brazilian was an integral part of the HFC squad that finished just outside the top-4 in the 2019-20 season of the ISL. “I am really happy to extend my stay with the club and continue being a part of this amazing family,” said Joao Victor, after signing the extension.

The former La Liga midfielder made 17 starts under Manolo Marquez last season and managed three goals and two assists. Joao Victor also captained the side on a couple of occasions through the course of the campaign. “Our target was to win every game and it will be the same again this season. And I hope, we can do better than the 5th placed finish from last season,” added the Brazilian who joined the club back in August 2020.

Delighted with Joao Victor extending his stay, head coach Manolo Marquez believes his presence will be very important for the club in the coming season. “Joao was a great leader, on and off the field, last season. He is experienced, knows what to do in every situation and is a complete player,” said the Spaniard.

“He is strong not only technically and tactically, but also mentally. He knows when to demand and when to be a little easy with his teammates and his relationship with the Indian youngsters was fantastic. He is a natural winner,” Manolo added.

Hyderabad FC recently signed two big names

Recently, Hyderabad FC completed the signing of Spanish player Eduardo ‘Edu’ Garcia. The experienced offensive midfielder, who can operate in multiple roles, joined Manolo Marquez’s side from last season’s runners-up ATK Mohun Bagan. During his time in the Indian Super League, Garcia has made a total of 47 appearances netting 10 goals while providing 12 assists.

“I am very excited to start my journey with Hyderabad FC. I promise to give my best and help the club grow with my experience and my work,” said Garcia after penning a one-year deal with Hyderabad FC. “I want HFC to finish as high as possible on the table, and will work hard for that. I will also always try to help the team by giving what the coach wants from me,” he added.

Prior to that the club also signed ISL’s third-highest goalscorer Bartholomew Ogbeche. The 36-year-old striker, Ogbeche, who won the ISL Double of the League Winner’s Shield and the ISL Trophy with Mumbai City last season, has signed a one-year deal till the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

“I am thrilled to have signed for Hyderabad FC. One could easily see from the outside that he (Manolo Marquez) has a clear idea about his style of play and what he wants from his players which is an admirable attribute that I find in him. I’m very excited to be playing under him,” said Ogbeche after completing formalities.
