Fijian striker Roy Kishna has left the Indian Super League (ISL) side ATK Mohun Bagan after two fruitful seasons. The 34-year-old has been one of the standout performers for the Mariners over the years and played a crucial role in their title triumph in 2020. Meanwhile Krishna’s departure has certainly made a big void in the Kolkata outfits camp with David Williams also heading out of the exit door. Krishna’s last assignment for the Mariners was the AFC Cup last month. ATKMB managed to secure a spot in the inter-zonal play-offs after clinching the top position in their group with two wins from three games.

Krishna spent six years in New Zealand

Krishna began his professional career in his native country Fiji before moving to New Zealand. He spent six glorious years there, turning out for Waitakere United and Auckland City. The striker then moved to the A-League and continued his goal-scoring form, netting 51 times for Wellington Phoenix. He won the golden boot and the prestigious Johnny Warren Medal after a stellar 2018-19 season. In June 2019, ATK came calling and the striker landed in the Indian shores for the first time in his career.

Krishna led the Kolkata-based club to their third ISL title in his debut season for the club. The striker was ATK’s top goal-scorer during the title winning campaign. In the following season, Krishna continued his heroics to lead his side to the ISL final, but had to settle for the runner-up position after losing to Mumbai City FC. The Fijian footballer again had a stellar campaign in front of goal, scoring 14 times in 23 times to finish as the joint-top-scorer in the league along with Igor Angulo. Krishna was adjudged the Hero of the League after a brilliant season. Meanwhile last season wasn’t very great for Krishna as he netted only seven times in 16 appearances but still managed to play a pivotal role in the team’s run to the play-offs, where they lost to eventual champions Hyderabad FC.
