Bengaluru FC have announced the signing of midfielder Rohit Kumar on a deal that lasts until the end of the 2022-23 season. The 24-year-old becomes the Blues’ first acquisition of the summer. He will join the squad ahead of their upcoming AFC Cup Playoff clash against Eagles FC. The Delhi-born footballer joined the DSK Shivajians academy in 2016, before going on to earn a promotion to the club’s first team in 2016 for the Durand Cup. Rohit scored his first goal just nine minutes into his senior career, and went on to score three more in the next two matches. Having made his I-League debut the same year, the midfielder moved to cross-town Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Pune City at the end of the season.

“Very excited about signing with Bengaluru FC”

“I am very excited about signing with Bengaluru FC and about the challenges that lie ahead. This is a club that most footballers in the country want to be a part of, so to get this opportunity is special. I’m looking forward to experiencing all the good things I’ve heard about BFC, and I’m eager to play my part in achieving success with this team and for the fans,” said Rohit after completing the formalities on his deal.

The footballer’s most recent campaign was recorded with the Kerala Blasters, having made 30 appearances in the ISL during his two years with FC Pune City and a season with Hyderabad FC.

“I would like to welcome Rohit to Bengaluru FC. He is a young and hardworking footballer who I believe will play his part in our season that begins shortly. As a coach, I am happy to have him at the club, and I wish him all the success,” said Head Coach Marco Pezzaiuoli.

The defensive midfielder enjoys experience at the international level, having represented the India U-19 team at the 2015 SAFF U-19 Championship, in Nepal. Rohit’s addition has further been followed by the signing of experienced defender Narayan Das by rivals Chennaiyin FC.

The left-sided defender joins on a two-year contract, following a season-long stint with SC East Bengal and is currently the second-highest capped player in the ISL with 107 appearances till date.

“I am really happy to join a champion team like Chennaiyin FC. My family and friends are also overjoyed. It is every player’s dream to help his team win, and I am no different. I aspire to prove my worth, play every single game and help the club in fulfilling the quest for a third ISL title. Even as the opponent I have always enjoyed the atmosphere at the Marina Arena, and I want to tell our brilliant fans to keep supporting us, because it is their backing that gives us the extra motivation,” said Das from his hometown in Bengal, after signing for the two-time ISL champions.

Predominantly a left-back, the defender is also capable of operating in central defence having recorded over 200 senior career appearances. The Tata Football Academy graduate is an experienced campaigner who will fortify CFC’s ranks greatly.
