Inter are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Atalanta on Tuesday. Matteo Darmian’s 57th-minute effort separated the two sides at San Siro and helped Nerazzurri progress to the semi-finals of the cup competition. Prior to that, Inzaghi’s side defeated relegation-battlers Cremonese 2-1, through Lautaro Martinez’s brace. It was their 13th top flight victory of the season. Inter are in pretty good form since the resumption of competitive action after the World cup break, having won six of their last eight outings across all competitions.
Milan, on the other hand, are going through a tough period, having not tasted victory in their last eight matches in all competitions, while losing four in that time. Their Previous outing against Sassuolo ended in a disappointing 5-2 defeat, despite the fact that Olivier Giroud and Divock Origi got on the scoresheet. Stefano Pioli’s side’s last victory came against Salernitana (2-1) on January 4 through early strikes from Rafael Leao and Sandro Tonali. It was their 11th league-win of the campaign.
Inter Milan have won two of the last three Milan derby’s, and both the victories came with a 3-0 scoreline. The latest Milan derby saw Inter find the back of the net three times without reply, courtesy of efforts from Fedrerico Dimarco, Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez. It was the 218th meeting between the two heavyweights of Italian football. Inter have recorded 80 victories, compared to 71 wins for Milan, while 67 encounters ended in draws.
