Inter Milan came from behind to beat Fiorentina 3-1 in Florence. This helped them move to the top of the points table. The Home side dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead through Riccardo Scottil. However, Inter came back stronger in the second half to score two goals in the space of three minutes. Matteo Darmian and Eden Dzeko were the stars. Meanwhile, 12 minutes from time, Nicolas Gonzalez was sent off for dissent. But, Ivan Perisic scored Inter’s third of the night to seal the three points.

Both teams came into the match on the back of some impressive form. Fiorentina was on a three-game winning run. Inter had thrashed Bologna 6-1 in their previous match. The hosts started the game brightly, with Dusan Vlahovic setting up Gonzalez. But, Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was quick to react and smother the chance from close range. Later, Vlahovic forced a fingertip save from Handanovic moments later.

Gonzalez got the better of Skriniar in an aerial challenge. He chased the ball down the left flank and set it up for Scottil at the far post. The Italian slotted the ball into an empty net making the score 1-0 for Vincenzo Italiano’s side. Meanwhile at the other end, Bartlomiej Dragowski had to make a diving save to keep out Hakan Calhanoglu’s free-kick.

Inter Milan equalise after falling behind

Seven minutes into the restart, Simone Inzaghi’s side equalized through a well worked goal. Dzeko played a through ball to  Nicolo Barella who laid it to Darmian on the right side of the penalty area. The Italian right-back smashed the ball past Dragowski to make it 1-1. And then, moments later, Calhanoglu’s corner kick from the right flank was headed home by Dzeko.

The momentum had now shifted towards the away side. Ivan Perisic flashing an effort across the face of goal and then Lautaro Martinez missing a sitter. The home side were starting to get frustrated. Gonzalez received his marching orders from the referee for loudly demanding a yellow card for Alessandro Bastoni’s shirt-tug. Initially he was shown a yellow card but he received a second yellow for his continued protest and sarcastic applause.

Three minutes from time, Mateo Vecino released  Roberto Gagliardini down the centre and the Italian midfielder laid it off to Perisic to make the score 3-1.

The win helped Inter Milan to 13 points from 5 games whereas Fiorentina are placed sixth with 9 points. Inter will next host Atalanta on Saturday and Fiorentina will travel to Udinese on Sunday.

Atalanta 2-1 Sassuolo

In the other match of the day, Atalanta beat Sassuolo 2-1 at home. Within three minutes of kick-off, Robin Gosen gave the lead to Atalanta. Ruslan Malinovskyi’s low cross from the right was slotted in by the German left-wing-back at the far post. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side extended the lead in the 37th minute. It was a brilliantly worked team goal finished off by Davide Zappacosta.

A minute before the break, Domenico Berardi pulled one back for Sassuolo. But that wasn’t enough as the hosts held on to the slender lead and secured all three points.

Atalanta are placed fourth in the points table with 10 points from five games and Sassuolo is at the 12th spot with four points.
