Serie A champions Inter Milan thrashed Udinese 5-1 on Sunday to end their victorious campaign on a high. Thousands of fans gathered outside the San Siro to celebrate, as Antonio Conte’s men rounded off a campaign that had witnessed Inter’s first league crown in 11 years. While the league triumph was sealed on May 2, the Milan-based club had to wait until the final day of the season to lift the trophy.

The Inter players lifted the 19th Scudetto in their history high into the afternoon skies at San Siro. Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur players Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen may never have imagined the prospect of linking up together and planning an attack, at their previous clubs. However, the scenario has changed at Inter, with the players on target before the break, ensuring a composed start.

Goals from Lautaro Martinez, Ivan Perisic and Romelu Lukaku completed the rout marking the end of a beautiful campaign from the club’s point of view. However, they could not maintain a clean sheet with former Juventus player Roberto Pereyra’s consolation penalty ruling out the prospect.

First Serie-A title since 2010

Inter Milan have got their hands on the Serie A title for the first time since 2010. The triumph assumes even more significance considering the fact that the Milan-based club had won their first Champions League since 1965, a day before on May 22 in the year 2010.

Inter Milan had seven shots on target in comparison to just two for Udinese. Four shots were off target for the former in comparison to five for the latter. The comparison extends further to 13 fouls committed for Inter with 16 for Udinese. The Serie A Champions were more composed in comparison to their opponents, and the same reflected on the scoreline.

“There is great emotion, joy, happiness. We have waited a long time for this moment, today is the day we are rewarded. We are enjoying it, but it must be a starting point,” said goalkeeper Samir Handanovic in an interaction with Italian television broadcaster DAZN following the final whistle.

“It’s been a dream since childhood, I’m excited to lift the trophy,” he added.
