Indian Super League: ATK Mohun Bagan sign Liston Colaco for a record transfer fee

ATK Mohun Bagan have splashed the cash for the promising 22-year-old Hyderabad forward after finishing runners-up in last ISL season

Hyderabad forward Liston Colaco has been making steady rise in football’s top level for few seasons now. And, his impressive showings have not gone unnoticed. Indian Super League club ATK Mohun Bagan have announced the signing of Liston Colaco. The undisclosed transfer fee is set to be a record fee for a domestic player in Indian football. The 22-year-old will join the Mariners with effect from June one, according to a Hyderabad FC statement.

“With a focus on long-term sustainability, Hyderabad FC agreed for Liston’s move in a deal that fetches the highest-ever transfer fee received for an Indian player,” a statement by Hyderabad FC read. “The club wishes Liston Colaco the very best for his future.”

Promising talent

Bagan, also known as the Mariners, will be delighted to have the versatile forward in their squad. With all the necessary skillset in his kitty, Colaco can become the next big thing in India. Apart from playing in the central areas, he can also operate on both flanks. He has spent a lot of time coming from the bench, providing the team with a bit of fresh air in crucial situations.

Liston, who joined the club in January 2020, made 23 appearances for Hyderabad FC in the ISL scoring four goals, while setting up three more. Following the promising campaign, he also went on to make his national team debut.

The Mariners finished the 2020-21 ISL campaign as runners-up behind league winners Mumbai City. The big summer signing will be a major boost for the team in their bid to fight for the title.
