India will take on Singapore in an international friendly at Thong Nhat Stadium in Vietnam on Saturday. The Blue Tigers are heading into the match on the back of a thumping 4-0 win against Hong Kong in the third round match of the AFC Asian Cup qualifier in June. Singapore, meanwhile, lost to Vietnam with a similar scoreline in a friendly on Wednesday. India are currently ranked 104th in the FIFA rankings, while the Lions are sitting 55 places behind them. Therefore, Igor Stimac’s side would start the match as favourites, at least on paper.

In their last outing against Hong Kong, Anwar Ali, Sunil Chhetri, Manvir Singh and Ishan Pandita netted for the Blue Tigers to secure the win. India has scored eight goals and conceded just one in their last three games.
Singapore, on the other hand, have lost four of their last five games across all competitions. The Lions have failed to qualify for the continental event after finishing third in their group, with just one win from three games. Meanwhile, in their last match against Vietnam, the Lions conceded four times without reply. Van Nguyen, Thanh Nguyen, Ho Tan Tai and Van Kuat netted for the Golden Star Warriors.

Indian defenders Sandesh Jhingan and Chinglensana Singh didn’t accompany the team due to travel document-related issues and only boarded a 3 am flight on Friday. Therefore both of them are unlikely to start the match. In the absence of two senior defenders, youngsters Anwar Ali and Narendra Gahlot could form the central defensive partnership. Anirudh Thapa and Jeakson Singh are expected to form the midfield-duo with Chhetri and Liston Colaco up front.
