Independiente will host Estudiantes in an Argentine Primera Division fixture at Estadio Libertadores de America on Monday. The home side are heading into the tie on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Argentinos Juniors, while Estudiante defeated Sarmiento 2-1 in their last outing. The club based in La Plata are unbeaten after four matches in the second phase of the domestic season. Independiente has registered only two wins against El Leon in the eight previous meetings, and their last victory came one year ago. One of the most decorated clubs in Argentina, outside the big-five, Estudiantes are very much on track to achieve greater heights this season.

At Estadio Diego Armando Maradona, on Thursday, Argentino Juniors took the lead through Thiago Nuss in the 21st minute before Leandro Benegas equalised on the stroke of half-time. However, Fausta Vera’s 53rd minute strike proved to be the winner and handed Independiente their first defeat of the campaign. The loss stretched their winless run away from home in this competition to six straight games, with their last away win coming at the beginning of May, winning 4-0 against General Caballero JLM in the group stage of Copa Sudamericana. Eduardo Dominiguez’s team is a successful team when the full-backs get involved in the attacks.
As for the club from La Plata, they have not lifted a trophy since capturing the 2010 Apertura domestic title, but this season, Los Pincharratas find themselves just two points adrift of the leaders Boca Juniors in the race for the overall title in Argentina. A victory on Tuesday will help Estudiantes move back to the summit of the points table above Boca Juniors, who defeated Barracas Central 3-1 on Sunday. Meanwhile Ricardo Zielinski’s side managed to get the better of Sarmeinto on Wednesday, courtesy of a brace from Mauro Boselli. It was Estudiantes’ third victory from their four opening games.
Benegas who netted the only goal for Independiente in the previous match is expected to lead the attack with Togni and Fernandez occupying the flanks. Central defender Barreto, who registered his first assist in the aforementioned game, will continue to marshall the back-three consisting of Juan Manuel Insaurralde and Leandro Fernandez. Lucas Romero is sidelined with COVID-19 while Tomas Pozzo is out with an ankle problem. As for Estudiantes, new comer Fabian Noguera could continue to partner Rogel in the central defence. Boselli will lead the attack alongwith Del Prete.
Independiente probable starting lineup: Sosa;Rodriguez, Barreto, Insaurralde, Vigo; Gonzalez, Poblete; Togni, Benavidez, Fernandez; Benegas.
Estudiantes probable lineups: Andujar; Godoy, Lollo, Rogel Mas; Castro, Rodriguez, Zuqui, Pellegrini; Del Prete, Boselli
