Brighton supporters have every reason to be excited about the upcoming season. They had ended the 2022-23 campaign in the best possible way to seal an unlikely sixth place in the Premier League table to secure a Europa League spot. It is something not many expected at the start of last season. Brighton followed it up by making some interesting signings in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The latest one to get their fans excited is the acquisition of Fiorentina centre-back Igor Julio, subject to all regulatory process. The left-sided central defender will be a welcome addition to Brighton, as he also has good amount of European experience. Igor, who has signed a four-year contract with the club, was an instrumental part of the Fiorentina squad that reached the final of the Europa Conference League last season, which they lost to West Ham United.

The 25-year-old Brazilian defender had moved to Fiorentina couple of years ago from another Italian side SPAL. Since then, he has been a regular for the club and also helped them secure the eighth spot in the Serie A table. Notably, Fiorentina also finished as runners-up in the Coppa Italia last season. Speaking about the latest arrival, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said, “Igor is another important player who can help us in a crucial position within the team; where the play starts.”

What Igor Julio had to say?

After putting pen to paper, Igor Julio spoke about how happy he is to join the Premier League outfit. “I’m very happy and excited to start playing as soon as possible. I’m happy to be here. I want to be here to play for the coach that wanted me and the style of play at Brighton also fits well with my own style,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

“It’s a childhood dream to play in the Premier League, I’m very excited. It’s always been my goal to play here. I’m really happy to reach this level. As always, I’m going to play the hardest as possible on the pitch. I’ll do my best every day, but most importantly to try and win the heart of the fans.”

Igor also spoke glowingly about his new manager Roberto De Zerbi. “I can’t wait to train and play for Roberto. He’s a fantastic coach and I think I can evolve so much under him. I want to become one of the best defenders in the team. When he left Italy he already had a big name, but after what he has achieved here his acknowledgment in Italy is even bigger,” he added.
