Saudi Arabia will resume their preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with an international friendly against Iceland at Mohammed Bin Zayed on Sunday afternoon. The Green Falcons are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over North Macedonia in a friendly match last month, while Iceland played out a 1-1 draw against Albania in a Nations League match in September. Saudi Arabia are building towards their Qatar World Cup opener against Argentina on November 22.

Saudi Arabia had an impressive World Cup qualification campaign, collecting 23 points from their 10 outings to top Group B ahead of Japan. The Green Falcons finished off their qualification campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Australia on March 29. After that, Herve Renard’s side participated in five friendlies. Saudi’s Arabia’s latest outing against North Macedonia ended in a narrow 1-0 win courtesy of Saleh Al-Shehri’s 85th-minute strike. Iceland, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. Last time out, Arnar Vidarsson’s side shared the spoils against Albania after Mikael Anderson netted a 96th-minute equaliser. Iceland will also take on South Korea in a friendly on November 11 before facing Lithuania in the semi-finals of Baltic Cup on November 16.
A number of Iceland players are still involved in club duties therefore Vidarsson doesn’t have a full-strength squad at his disposal. A number of players will be hoping to make their debuts on Sunday. Karlsson is likely to spearhead the attack alongside Djuric. As for Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Al-Hamdan and Abdullah Radif are expected to form the attacking duo with Al-Faraj and Otayf occupying the flanks.
