Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is understandably delighted with reaching the 100 Premier League goals landmark. Mane, who previously spent two seasons with Southampton, is targeting more goals in the league. The Senegal international reached the century in England’s top flight when he scored the opening goal of Liverpool’s 5-0 win at Watford on Saturday. It is interesting to note that Mane is the third African player to score 100 times in the Premier League. Besides, he is only the third player to do so in the division without any penalties.

“Honestly, when I came to the Premier League my dream was to score as many as I can and especially to win trophies,” Mane told Liverpoolfc.com. “So today I’m very happy and very proud to score 100 goals. Hopefully more goals [are] coming and also trophies coming.”

Mane on Salah

Mane’s eighth-minute effort at Vicarage Road opened the floodgates for the Reds, as the visiting side ran away with the match. The dominant display also saw Roberto Firmino clinch a hat-trick. But the highlight was Mohamed Salah producing another solo wonder goal. Recently, he netted a similar stunning individual goal past Manchester City before the international break.

“I think it’s a better goal than City! But it’s no surprise for us because we know his quality, one of the best players in the world. He showed it today,” said Mane. “Bobby as well – he showed it – one of the best for sure in the world. I’m very happy for them.

“Especially Bobby’s hat-trick, it was not an easy time for him with injuries but he is back and I’m happy for him. Hopefully he will be here for us and score more goals for us until the end of the season.”

Mane also opened up about Liverpool’s dominant victory on Saturday. “Obviously we played very well today,” he said. “From the beginning we had a very, very fast start and created many chances. We scored five goals, five wonderful goals. I think we deserved to win today.

“Of course we knew the manager, he was in the Premier League and especially won it. But we were more focused on ourselves in training – we know our qualities and how hard we could [make it] for them.

“It’s what we did for the weekend and [over] the weeks, we worked very hard and we showed it today. It was just incredible and hopefully we’re going to keep like this.”

Mohamed Salah on his wonder strike

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has opened up about his stunning goal in Liverpool’s comprehensive 5-0 victory at Watford. Post-match, Salah spoke to BT Sport about his goal. When asked whether he has scored a better goal than that, Salah replied, “Last game maybe!”

“I don’t know which one was better, this one or the City one. Every time I’m in the box I’m trying to give the ball to someone to score, or I score by myself. It’s always about the team. I always try to play for the team. The most important thing today is we scored good goals, all of us in front scored. Hopefully we can carry on like that.”
