Hibernian FC will host Norwich City in a pre-season friendly at Easter Road on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Greenock Morton in the Scottish League cup fixture last Thursday, while Norwich suffered a 2-0 loss at Celtic in their recent outing. It will be the final friendly for both sides before beginning their respective league campaigns next week. Norwich had a disappointing Premier League campaign last term, finishing rock bottom in the standings and got relegated to the Championship. Hibernian, on the other hand, also didn’t have a great league season last time around, finishing seventh in the Scottish Premiership points table.

The Hibees are preparing for their third friendly of the Summer, having recorded wins against Hartlepool (2-0) and Burton (4-2) earlier this month. Lee Johnson’s side spent the last few weeks attempting to secure progress into the next stage of the Scottish League Cup. But Hibernian struggled to make headway. In the last match, Ewan Henderson had canceled out Grant Gillespie’s opener. However it soon emerged that the Hibees had fielded an ineligible player during the match, the result being a 3-0 defeat handed to the hosts. After the game against Norwich, Johnson’s side will kick-off their new Scottish Premiership season with a trip to St Johnstone on July 30.
Norwich on the other hand, will begin their 2022-23 championship season away to Cardiff City next Saturday. Dean Smith’s side have played six pre-season friendlies so far, registering four wins, one defeat and a draw. The Canaries got the better of Dereham Town (4-0), King’s Lynn Town, Marseille(3-0) and Cambridge United (3-1). Norwich’s only defeat this summer came in their last match against Scottish champions Celtic.
Norwich boss Smith is likely to opt for a strong starting lineup as this will be their final preparation match before the competitive actton begins next week. Tim Krul could feature between the posts. The likes of Liam Gibbs and Jordan Hugill have found form in the recent games and could be featured again. New signing Gabriel Sara is doubtful as the Brazilian is yet to join the training camp. As for Hibernian, Johnson could rotate his squad as the Hibees are heading into the match on the back of a competitive encounter a few days ago. Bushiri could feature against his former club, while former Benfica-man Jair Tavares is likely to occupy the left flank.
The pre-season friendly match between Hibernian and Norwich City will take place at Easter Road on Sunday at 6:30 pm IST.
