Guangzhou City will play host to Changchun Yatai in a Chinese Super League fixture at Mission Hills Football Base Stadium on Friday afternoon. Both sides will be aiming to get back to winning ways having failed to pocket three points last time around. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a 4-2 defeat against Hangzhou Greentown, while Changchun played out a goalless draw against Henan Jianye last time out. The defeat left Guangzhou rooted to the foot of the division while the visitors occupy 10th spot in the 18-team table with six points from five games. It’s still early days in the competition and both teams have more than enough games left to get their acts together.
Guangzhou City’s losing streak continued in Monday’s meeting against Zhejian Professional as they suffered a fifth straight defeat in as many games in the 2022 CSL season. The visitors netted four times in the first half through Jin Cheng, Donovan Ewolo and Franko Andrijasevic before Gong Zhang and Tixiang Li reduced the deficit for Jean-Paul van Gastel’s side. Despite not opening their account so far, the Blue Lions can consider themselves lucky to be only three points adrift of the safe zone at the moment. With the season still in the initial stage, the hosts still have enough time to pull their socks up and turn their fortunes.
Changchun Yatai, on the other hand, also didn’t have a great start to the season, registering just one win in five outings to sit at the tenth spot, just three points above the drop zone. At the Development Area stadium on Monday, Chen Yang’s men failed to find the breakthrough despite creating the better chances on the day. The Jilin-based outfit’s only victory of the campaign came against Guangzhou City in their opening fixture and since then, they have registered three draws and one draw to pocket six points.
Hong Gui, who registered two assists for Guangzhou in the previous match, could continue to lead the attack with Chen Zhizhao and Tixiang Li in support. Meanwhile young defender Zhuoxuan Li will be pushing for a place in the starting eleven. As for Changchun, Junior Negrao, Erik and Tan Long will form the attacking trio. Tudi and Zhang could pull the strings in the midfield with Liao and Rao occupying the flanks.
Guangzhou probable starting lineup: Ching; Fu, Yi, Jiang; Huang, Zhang, Wang, Zhang; Chen, Gui Li
Changchun Yatai probable starting lineup: Wu; Sun, Okore, Han; Liao, Tudi, Zhang, Rao; Tan, Negao, Erik.
The Chinese Super League fixture between Guangzhou City and Changchun Yatai will take place at the Mission Hills Football Base Stadium and it will kickoff at 4:00 pm IST on June 24, Friday.
