Real Madrid will be bidding to make it five consecutive wins across all competitions when they travel to Montillivi on Tuesday to take on Girona in a La Liga fixture. Los Blancos defeated Celta Vigo 2-0 last weekend, while the hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss away to Real Valladolid. As of now, Girona are occupying 11th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 38 points from 30 games, eight points clear of the relegation zone. Carlo Ancelotti’s side, meanwhile, are sitting at the second position, with 65 points to their name, 11 adrift of leaders Barcelona. Meanwhile, the reverse fixture between these two sides in October last year ended in a 1-1 draw after Girona forward Christian Stuani canceled out Vinicius Junior’s opener.

Girona suffered their 12th league-defeat of the season against Valladolid on Saturday courtesy of Monchu’s lone goal mid-way through the first-half. Prior to that, White Reds got the better of rock-bottom side Elche in front of their own supporters thanks to two unanswered goals from Valentin Castellanos and Oriol Romeu. Having been promoted back to the La Liga via the Segunda Division playoffs, Michel’s side’s main goal would have been to avoid relegation, with anything else viewed as a huge bonus. Meanwhile, Girona have been impressive at home turf, taking 27 points from 15 league-matches at Montilivi.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, recorded their 20th league-win of the season against Celta Vigo on Saturday thanks to goals from Marco Asensio and Eder Militao. The result helped Ancelotti’s side to move to within eight points of leaders Barcelona, but the gap was back to 11 on Sunday afternoon, with the Catalan outfit beating Atletico Madrid 1-0. Los Blancos will be expecting Blaugrana to drop points and allow them back into the title-race. The capital side will face Osasuna in the Copa del Rey final on May 6 before hosting Manchester City for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final three days later.
