Leicester will begin their FA Cup campaign with a trip to Priestfield to take on Gillingham on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Stevengae in a League Two fixture on Monday, while the Foxes also suffered a loss against Fulham, with an identical scoreline, in a Premier League outing, two days later. Gillingham are currently languishing at the bottom of the fourth tier of English football, having collected 14 points from 23 games. Leicester, on the other hand, are occupying 13th spot in the English top flight standings, with 17 points to their name from 18 matches, just two clear of the drop zone.

Gillingham lost to Stevenage, courtesy of Carl Piergianni’s header in the 23rd-minute, on Monday night. Neil Harris’s side are now in deep trouble, having lost each of their last four games across all competitions. The Gills got the better of Fylde and Dagenham & Redbridge in the previous rounds to reach this far in the FA Cup. It will be their first appearance in the third round of the competition, since losing at this point to West Ham United in 2019-20. Meanwhile, only three of their last 10 home games in all tournaments have ended in defeats and it will certainly give a glimmer of hope for the Priestfield faithful, when they host the Premier League outfit on Saturday.
Leicester, on the other hand, lifted the FA Cup trophy, less than two years ago, courtesy of a stunning long range effort by Youri Tielemans in the final against Chelsea. However, the Foxes have not had the best of seasons thus far, having lost 11 of their 18 league-games so far, to be sitting just two points clear of the relegation zone. Brendan Rodgers’ side’s last league-outing ended in a defeat, through Aleksandar Mitrovic’s lone goal inside the opening 17 minutes. Leicester had the majority of the ball possession and created more goal-scoring chances, but the opposition goalkeeper Bernd Leno made some fine saves to keep a clean sheet. Last time around, the Foxes got knocked out in the fourth round of the Cup competition, as they lost 4-1 to Nottingham Forest.
Gillingham defender Elkan Baggott is sidelined with an ankle injury. Therefore, Will Wright and Max Ehmer could partner in the heart of the defence. Adelakun and Mandron could form the attacking duo, with Jeffries and MacDonald occupying the flanks. As for Leicester City, the injury list consists of Boubakaray Soumare, James Maddison, Johnny Evans, Dennis Praet, Patson Daka, Ryan Bertrand, Ricardo Pereira, James Justin and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho could lead the line, with Albrighton and Barnes occupying the flanks.
Gillingham possible line-up: Morris, McKenzie, Wright, Ehmer, Tutonda, Jeffries, Williams, O’Keefe, MacDonald, Adelakum, Mandron
Leicester City possible line-up: Iversen, Castagne, Amartey, Vestergaard, Thomas, Mendy, Tielemans, Albrighton, McAteer, Barnes, Iheanacho
