The Black Stars are currently occupying second spot in Group H, having collected three points from two games, two points ahead of fourth-placed Uruguay, and a win on Friday will seal their place in the last-16 stage.
Ghana will take on Uruguay in a Group H fixture at the Al Janoub Stadium, knowing that a victory will take them through to the knockouts of Qatar World Cup alongside Portugal. The Black Stars are currently occupying second spot in the group, having collected three points from two games, two points ahead of fourth-placed Uruguay, who need a victory to stand a chance of progressing to the last-16 stage of the tournament. The last competetive meeting between these two sides was in the quarter-finals of 2010 World Cup, when Luis Suarez’s unceremonious handball denied Ghana the chance to become the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of World Cup. The black Stars would be poised to take revenge against the Sky Blue.

Ghana kicked off their 2022 World cup campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Portugal, before getting the better of South Korea with a similar scoreline on Monday. Mohammed Salisu opened the scoring, before Mohammed Kudus netted a double for the Black Stars to take all three points at the Education City Stadium. Now, a victory would send Otto Addo’s side into the knockout round, while a draw would be enough if South Korea does not beat Portugal, who are already through. Meanwhile, if South Korea beat the Navigators, then second position in the group will be decided on goal-difference.Â
Uruguay, on the other hand, will definitely be eliminated if they fail to win on Friday. Three points would be enough to advance if South Korea does not beat Portugal, although if both teams triumph, then second in the group will be decided on goal difference. The South American’s, who reached the semi-finals in 2010, kicked off their campaign with a goalless draw against South Korea, before losing 2-0 to Portugal on monday. A second half brace from Bruno Fernandes handed the defeat to the Sky Blue.  Â

Ghana have not reported any injury concerns from their previous clash against South Korea, therefore head coach Oddo is unlikely to make too many alterations to the side that started on Monday. Athletic Bilbao-man Inaki Williams is expected to lead the line with Kudus, Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew in support. Arsenal player Thomas Party is likely to pull the strings in the midfield, alongside Salis Abdul Samed. As for Uruguay, veterans Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have struggled to impress in the tournament thus far. Therefore, Maxi Gomez could join Darwin Nunez in the attacking department. Federico Valverde, Rodrygo Bentancur and Matias Vecino could form the midfield-trio.Â
Ghana probable starting lineup: Ati-Zigi, Lamptey, Amartey, Salisu, Mensah, Partey, Samed, Kudus, A Ayew, J Ayew, Williams
Uruguay probable starting lineup: Rochet, Gimenez, Godin, Coates, Varela, Valverde, Bentancur, Vecino, Olivera, Nunez, Gomez
