Atletico Madrid will kickoff their 2022-23 La Liga campaign with a trip to Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Monday to take on Getafe. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Albacete in their final pre-season friendly last Sunday, while Atletico Madrid thrashed Juventus 4-0 on the same day. Getafe finished 15th in the La Liga Santander last term, with 39 points, just one clear of the relegation zone. Atletico, meanwhile, managed to secure a third place finish, just two points behind second-placed Barcelona.

Getafe didn’t have a great pre-season, registering just one win from six friendlies. Their only victory came against Preston North End last month. Meanwhile in their latest outing against Albacete, Higino Marino’s lone strike was enough to hand Getafe their third defeat of the summer. Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have been active in the summer market, signing the likes of Borja Mayoral, Luis Milia, Domingos Duarte, Jaime Seoane, Fabrizio Angileri, Kiko Casilla and Portu.

Atletico, on the other hand, have brought in Nahuel Molina and Axel Witsel , while Alvaro Morata and Saul Niguez are back in Wanda Metropolitano after loan spells in Juventus and Chelsea respectively. Diego Simeone’s side participated in four friendlies this summer, winning all four of them against the likes of Numancia (4-0), Manchester United (1-0), Cadiz CF (4-1) and Juventus. In their latest outing against the Serie A outfit, Morata netted a hat-trick while Matheus Cunha scored one goal to secure the win.
Getafe boss Flores is likely to opt for a 4-3-3 formation with Mayoral leading the line. Enes Unal and Portu are expected to support the former Real Madrid man up front. Dakonam and Duarte could form the central defensive partnership. As for Atletico, Felipe is the only notable absentee due to injury. Griezmann, Morata and Joao Feliz could form the front-three with De Paul and Koke pulling the string from the midfield.
