Freiburg, who went into the World Cup break, on the back of some stunning form, having recorded four wins from five league-games, resumed their campaign with a surprise loss to Wolfsburg. Christian Streich’s side conceded six times courtesy of Patrick Wimmers’ first-minute opener, Joan Wind’s first half brace, and second half strikes from Yannick Gerhardt, Riddle Baku and Luca Waldschmidt. The 57-year-old tactician will be hoping that it was a one-game slip up and his team will bounce back quickly. Meanwhile, Bresigau-Brasilianer are through to the last-16 of the Europa League and the DFP-Pokal.Â
Frankfurt, meanwhile, netted three times against bottom placed Schalke on the weekend. Kesper Lindstorm opened the scoring inside the opening 21 minutes before Santos Borr doubled the lead six minutes from time. And then, Aureillo Buta’s 91st-minute strike completed the drubbing and helped Frankfurt take all three points, and extend their unbeaten run to five competitive games across all competitions. As of now, both sides have a game in hand over the top two sides in the table, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, and the winner of Wednesday’s match will move to the second-spot, just three points behind the leaders Bayern. Therefore, it’s likely to be a high-voltage encounter in Freiburg.Â
Freiburg winger Grifo, who missed drubbing against wolfsburg due to illness is doubtful for the match against the Eagles, while Hungarian Rolland Sallai is ruled out because of a muscular issue. Gregoritsch is likely to lead the line, with Doan, Kyereh and Holer in support. As for Frankfurt, wing-back Eric Edimbe is sidelined with an ankle injury  Rando Kolo Muani should keep his place up front, with Mario Gotze and Lindstorm in support.Â
Freiburg Probable line-up: Flekken, Kubler, Ginter, Lienhart, Gunter, Keitel, Höfler, Doan, Kyereh, Holer, Gregoritsch
Eintracht Frankfurt probable line-up: Trapp, Jakic, Smolcic, N’Dicka, Knauff, Rode, Sow, Lenz, Lindstorm, Gotze, Muani
