France will be expected to be the heavy favourites against Israel in the semi-final of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship. Tuesday’s showdown in the Slovakian town of Dunajska Streda will see Group A leaders taking on Group B runners-up. Even though the pre-tournament favourites, France, will be backed by many to win the semifinal clash, Israel’s performance so far in the competition cannot be undermined. Hence, fans can expect to see a tightly-contested affair on Tuesday between these two sides.
The French national team started the tournament as heavy favourites and maintained that tag with impressive performances till now. The Under-19 side began with a 5-0 thumping of Slovakia, edged past Romania 2-1 before hammering Italy 4-1. They sit on top of their group, having scored 11 goals and conceded just two in three games.
On the other hand, Israel Under-19 side had to go through some nervy moments before booking their semifinal spot. They started with a 2-2 draw over Serbia before beating Austria 4-2. However, in their last group match, they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by England, yet Israel qualified with four points from three games. On Tuesday, they have a giant task at hand to get past France in the semifinal.

With not many injuries or suspensions to worry about, both sides can name a relatively strong side on Tuesday. The French side have been one of the standout teams in the competition till now. They have won all three group matches and head into the semifinals as the clear favourites. For France, versatility has been one of their biggest strengths, hence it is not clear how they will set up on Tuesday. Captained by defender Ousmane Camara, one or both of Alan Virginius and Ange-Yoan Bonny could play up front for them.
On the other hand, Israel have a much more settled formation. Starting in a 4-2-3-1 formation, they are expected to be at their best in the defensive third to see out waves of the French attack. Besides, they have good options up front to cause problems for their much-fancied opponents in counter-attacking situations.
