Flamengo and Corintians will face each other in the second leg of the Copa do Brasil at Maracana on Wednesday. Last Wednesday, despite the fact that both sides had plenty of attacking intent and displayed positive football, for the first time since 2017 that the first leg of the final match in this competition ended in a goalless draw. Meanwhile, Rubero-Negro are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Atletico Mineiro in a Brasileiro Serie A on Saturday, while Corinthians’ game against Goias was postponed.

The opening leg of the cup-final was a thrilling affair that saw a total of 16 shots taken in the first half at the Corinthians Arena. The visitors managed to create close to 19 chances and recorded 6 shots on target in the entire match, compared to just three by the Corinthians. Meanwhile Flamengo kept its unbeaten record away from home at this tournament. And then, The Scarlet Black went on to get the better of Atletico Mineiro in a league fixture last Saturday. Everton Soares’ lone goal in the 38th-minutes separated the two sides at the Maracana. The result helped Flamengo to move to the third spot in the Serie A standings, having collected 55 points from 32 games, 13 points adrift of leaders Palmeiras.

Corinthians, on the other hand, are sitting at the 5th position in the Brazilian top flight standings, with 54 points. Timao’s last league-match against Atletico-PR on October 8 ended in a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Fabian Balbuena and Roger Guedes. Meanwhile, Corinthians reached the cup-final by getting the better of Fluminense 5-2 on aggregate in the semi-final and are aiming to secure a fourth Copa do Brasil trophy. Playing on the road has been a struggle for Timao in the 2022 competition, as they are winless in four away fixtures thus far. Therefore, Victory Pereira’s side will have to do something out of the box to get the better of the Rubero-Negro.
