Flamengo and Al-Hilal will go head-to-head in the semi-final of the Club World Cup at Grand Stade de Tanger on Tuesday night. The Saudi Arabian outfit reached this far in the competition, courtesy of overcoming Wydad AC 5-4 on penalties in the second round, after the match was tied at 1-1 in 120 minutes of play. Flamengo, meanwhile, won the Copa Libertadores last term, to earn a direct qualification into the last-4 stage of the competition. As of now, Rubro-Negro are sitting at the summit of Carioca Serie A standings, having collected 14 points from 6 games, while Al-Hilal are occupying fourth position in the Saudi Pro League table, with 32 points to their name from 15 matches.

Flamenco are heading into the match on the back of some pretty good form, having not tasted defeat in their last six Campeonato Carioca Serie A affairs, conceding a goal or fewer each time. Their latest outing against Boavista ended in a narrow 1-0 win, courtesy of Pedro’s 68th-minute effort. Meanwhile, Mengao dominated the 2022 Copa Libertadores, becoming the first club to go unbeaten throughout the competition and lift the trophy since Corinthians did it 10 years earlier. The Brasileiro Serie A Campaign is still a couple of months away from beginning, but in the meantime, Scarlet-Black are sharpening their skills at Campeonato Carioca. It has been over a decade since a Brazilian club won the Club World Cup and Flamengo are aiming to become the third side from Brasileiro Serie A to reach the final in the past four editions of the competition.
Al-Hilal, on the other hand, faced Flamengo at this stage of the competition in 2019. The Saudis took an early lead through Al-Dawsari’s 18th-minute effort, before Urubu came out all guns blazing in the second half and netted three times to enter the final. Meanwhile, their last outing against Moroccan outfit Wydad AC was a thrilling affair. The Blue Waves came from behind to level the score through Mohammed Kanno’s 93rd-minute strike and took the game to extra time, before prevailing in the shootout.
