Inter Milan overcame Juventus in the two-legged semi-final tie last month to earn a spot in the final of Coppa Italia. Simone Inzaghi’s side secured a thrilling 1-1 draw against the Old Lady in the first leg of the last four stage at Allianz Stadium thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s 95th-minute equliser, before prevailing 1-0 in the second-leg at San Siro through Federico Dimarco’s first-half effort. After that, Nerazzurri also ditched city rivals AC Milan from the Champions League when the two Milan giants met this month. While, they recently suffered their 12th league-defeat of the season against Napoli at Diego Maradona Stadium on Sunday despite the fact that Lukaku found the back of the net. As of now, Inter are sitting at the third spot in the Italian top flight standings, having collected 66 points from 36 games, just five clear of fifth-placed Atalanta with two games remaining.
Fiorentina, on the other hand, are aiming to end their 22-year trophy drought this season. Viola reached the final of the domestic cup competition courtesy of defeating Cremonese 2-0 on aggregate in the semi-final tie in April. Both the goals in the last four stage were scored in the first leg at Giovanni Zini Stadium through Arthur Cabral and Nicolas Gonzalez. Like Inter, Viola progressed from a continental semi-final, courtesy of defeating Basel 3-1 in the second leg in Switzerland and thereby securing a 4-3 aggregate victory. Gonzalez’s brace and Anontin Barak’s 129th-minute effort helped the Italian’s side reach the final of Europe’s third tier tournament. On Sunday they shared the points against Torro in the league despite taking the lead through Luka Jovic’s 48th-minute effort. The Tuscan club are currently sitting at the 11th position in the Serie A table with 50 points to their name, ten adrift of top six with two games remaining, therefore winning either of the Cup finals is their best chance to qualify for Europe next season.
